The Uganda Rugby Union celebrates the International Women’s Day with a level 1 coaching course for women.
A team of 16 women have undergone a level one coaching course for XV today at Kyadondo.
The course was conducted by World Rugby Educator Helen Koyokoyo Buteme and Andrew Owor in close supervision of World Rugby Trainer, Bwali Robert.
Coach Helen’s remarks after the course:
I found a quote in Twitter some time back “You can’t be what you can’t see”. A lack of female coaches means that players do not aspire to coach as they consider it a “man’s job”.
Female coaches are not just coaches – they are also role models which eventually increases the number of girls getting involved in rugby either through playing or coaching.
Involving more women in coaching courses also increases coaching capacity. Women are generally the earliest teachers of children both at home and school which means that children (both girls and boys) get exposed to rugby at earlier ages.
