Uganda Rugby Union held a GIR Program in FortPortal over the weekend.
The GIR trainer Yayiro Kasasa, World Rugby educator Dorothy Nekesa, who also doubles as the URU Age Grade Excom member and Timothy Iraka, Western Uganda Rugby Development Officer arrived in Fort Portal on Friday afternoon 27th August 2021.
Tooro Lions Rugby Club head coach Norie Traton met the officials and took them to Buhinga Stadium for a training session with the Lions and some children.
The main program was held on Saturday 28th August with 20 participants from Kasese and Fort Portal.There were 5 women and 15 men.
The Guest of Honor was Ms. Tumuhairwe Theopista, District Sports Officer in Kabarole. She encouraged more women to get involved with the sport. We handed over balls to coaches for use in the community centers that will be established in the Rwenzori area.
The rugby camp was generally successful and these new clubs have created a feeder system for players and coaches.
